'Creating ceremony where
nature, spirit and love merge...'
Ceremony, by definition, 'is a formal religious or sacred observance; a solemn rite or
ritual’. It is an ancient practice which has been sadly removed from modern western society.
We have become more focused on obtaining the latest technology
instead of gaining spiritual growth. Technology, yet wonderful, unfortunately
for some has emerged as our new ‘religion’ (consider how you would feel if you
lost your iphone or had to live without a plasma TV). Yet why do many of us still feel like something is missing
in daily life, a spiritual void?
Could
the reason that modern societies framework is in such turmoil be due to our
current lack of family tradition and ceremonial practice?
Our
ancestors performed many ceremonies. They gave thanks for abundant crops, rain
and sun and celebrated the changing of seasons with excitement and vigor.
More
recently even simple traditions are practised less today. Remember ‘Debutant Balls’ for 16 year olds or
families giving thanks before meal times and bedtime?
Ceremony
brings focus, hope and comfort. It also brings closure, transition and meaning
to some very important milestones in life. Personal daily ritual allows us to
make conscious choices about how we wish to lead our lives and actually
following through with these choices.
A
ceremony can be created simply for all passages of life. Start by setting up a
‘sacred space’ in your home where you can have a variety of ‘tools’ to help you
become more grounded and focused in your day to day life. A small table with
fresh flowers and a candle or pictures of loved ones (both living or passed
away) and some incense. The important thing here is to make it a meaningful
place. Tend to this space daily and keep it free of clutter (just like a
garden). Admire it as you pass by. Just let it sink into and become part of
your domestic landscape.
Use
this area for grounding yourself.
Sit and meditate or ‘unwind’ after a long day for just 5 minutes. Say a
heartfelt poem or affirmation either out loud or to yourself, when you need help
with any problems or issues you maybe experiencing. For example, manifesting a new exciting job or envisaging a
better relationship.
Creating
ceremony keeps traditions alive in both communities and families. But most of
all it brings us peace, enables transition and encourages a deeper awareness of
the value of nature. It also makes us more aware of the power within ourselves and our often forgotten
connection to a greater spiritual force.
“Being
a Wedding Celebrant brings me a sense of pride,
accomplishment and achievement. I also obtain great satisfaction knowing
I am
assisting couples with one of the biggest decisions they may ever make
in life….joining
together in marriage”, says Gemma.
Gemmas ceremonies and rituals are uplifting and spiritually
deepening. The positive energy which is created in all her ceremonies, helps
to calm
and bring focus to the couple and guests and bring about a sense of inner peace
to all
involved.
Gemma has a passion for providing a unique marriage
ceremony to couples on their wedding day, as well as other varied family
and
community events such as Baby Blessings and Blessingway Mother Ceremonies. She has always been interested in how ceremony and
rituals
have been used throughout history to bring about the smooth passage of
life's
important milestones and to officiate important events. Ceremony brings
focus,
hope and comfort. It also brings closure, transition and meaning to
life's events.
Gemma is also a Reiki Master. Reiki is a form of spiritual healing, originating from Japan. To become a
Reiki

believes
that the journey of a Reiki practitioner brings a realisation of the
importance
of ritual and discipline in life. She also believes Reiki pushes personal boundaries and brings a
beautiful sense of inner peace and confidence from within.
“Reiki stands for ‘universal energy’ and helps me connect to
people of all ages and walks of life through the giving of unconditional
love”,
says Gemma.
“I believe getting married to be a valuable and sacred
practice. Marriage to me represents
growth,
both as individuals and as a couple, unified and sealed with unconditional love".
